The Long Knives

The Long Knives were formed originally as a solo act by WJ in March of 2008 after the breakup of Six Days Of Rain, and eventually evolved into the current line-up also featuring Will Rogers on bass and Steve Kunkle on percussion in the Summer of 2010. With WJ’s 30 years of experience with writing and playing music, the songs were not very difficult to come by, and only continue to progress. The sound of The Long Knives can be hard to pinpoint with a term or genre, but it is one that the band loosely calls Psychiatric rock, featuring a sonic, searing sound, backed with haunting lyrics, and powerful melodies. The Long Knives sound continues to evolve, and in the late Summer of 2011, the band will be releasing their first album entitled “Holy Ghost Points”, which will be followed by an EP to be titled “The Death Of A Thousand Cuts”. The songs center around some of the darker elements of our lives, much of it drawn from the madness that surrounded WJ’s life for years and also his 10 years of experience working in the Mental Health field, and deal with issues that run very deep in the realm of human emotion without transcending into a depressing, emo type sound (hence the term Psychiatric Rock). Rather, it is one that is filled with power and an underlying chaos present that will move the heart, soul, and the mind, and combines the elements of Psych Rock, Indie/Alternative, Metal, Hardcore, Blues, Psychobilly, and Shoegaze all rolled into one.
